WAT HUI THONG IN MAE WIN, CHIANG MAI
TEMPLE OF 1000 BUDDHAS
Another Buddhist temple that is not like all the other temples. For many centuries it has been abandoned and was rebuilt in 1999 from scratch. But this does not mean that builders have forgotten the past. Thus in loving small work an interesting mix of modernity and the past was created, which one does not see anywhere else. Huge golden Buddha statues alternate with representations of the religious founder, which you elsewhere do not get to see.
The temple also has a unique view of the Mae Sapok River valley. A highlight is surely the second name of the place: “The temple of 1000 Buddhas”: With the help of Belgian art students, countless faces of the Enlightened were brought to the rock walls, which is so very unique.
