One person, one animal, one day

Creating trust through individuality.

Experiencing elephants in Asia means getting close to the animals with care and getting a lasting impression of what it means to be out and about with the pachyderms. The 3-day elephant up-close tour is ideal for gaining a wonderful insight into the adventure of elephant riding.

On all booked days you will travel to our elephant camp and spend a lot of time with the animals. You will learn the most important commands to steer your own elephant and enjoy nature in the mountains. We will also introduce you to traditional elephant handling in the timber industry.

Detailed travel program

Day 1

We will pick you up from your hotel in Chiang Mai.
(IMPORTANT: pick-up at 8.30 a.m. at the latest)
You will reach the village of Mae Sapok, around 60 km away, where your accommodation will be located for the duration of your stay. We will introduce you to the day’s schedule over breakfast coffee or tea. You then drive to our elephant camp just a few minutes away. Information about elephants in general and about the tradition of elephant husbandry in Asia is presented here. You will get to know our animals, we will introduce you to the characters and the history of each individual elephant to give you a picture of our heart project. You will now also get to know your “own” elephant for the duration of your stay and will be gently introduced to it. After lunch, take your elephants to the nearby river and enjoy a long swim with the animals. You will then begin an extended ride through the surrounding forests and finally arrive back at the elephant camp. While the elephants enjoy their evening off, you will get to know the village of Mae Sapok. Most of the inhabitants here are people from the Karen hill tribe. We introduce you to the Karen way of life with impressive excursions and in-depth background knowledge. After a relaxing shower in your accommodation, you can enjoy a multi-course dinner typical of the region.

Day 2

After breakfast, you’ll travel to the elephant camp with your trainer. From there, you’ll head into the surrounding forests to collect the elephants from their nighttime resting spots. You’ll ride the animals back to the elephant camp and, through the experience gained the previous day, you’ll become more confident in your interactions with these magnificent creatures. In the camp, you’ll have lunch and observe the elephants during their relaxing midday period.

Following that, you’ll embark on another beautiful ride through the adjacent forest. Next, you’ll visit a local government development project dedicated, like us, to the future of elephants and building sustainable community structures in the area. Here, there is also an opportunity to visit a stunning waterfall.

.

Day 3
You enjoy your breakfast and then drive to the elephant camp, where you start a very extensive ride with your elephants through the surrounding mountains. Along the way, you can enjoy the view of nearby rice fields, the home villages of the elephant guides and the course of the local mountain streams.

After arriving at your destination, you can say goodbye to your elephant in person and dine with a spectacular view at our partner foundation Tong Bai Foundation.

Here we also present the background to this project, which is committed to safeguarding the future of old and young elephants. After lunch you will have the opportunity to enjoy a unique memento to keep special memories of your stay at Elephant Special Tours. A t-shirt provided by us will be printed with the elephant’s footprint together with you.

This rounds off the impressive elephant experience in a pleasant and relaxed way. Before your departure, you can take a relaxing shower before returning to Chiang Mai, where you will hopefully be able to reflect on the great impressions you have gained. You will arrive in the city at around 5.30 pm.
